Kogui

The Kogui is a Colombian indegenous tribe that fled high to the Sierra Nevada when Spaniards arrived 500 years ago in Northern Colombia. They are also descendants of the Tairona Civilization.



Believes:

They believe that the Sierra Nevada is the “Mother” and the “Heart of the World.”

The Kogi believe they are the “Elder Brothers,”.

The Kogui were tired of be silent about the ecological damage they saw in the Sierra Nevada allowing in 1988 a journalist from BBC. So they have an alert to the "Younger Brother".

IMPORTANT FACTS:

The Kogui are unique because they were never conquered by Spaniards.

The Kogi represent the most complete surviving civilization of pre-Colombian America.

Their spiritual leaders where known as Shamans named “Mamas.

Arhuaco

The Arhuaco´s is an indigenous group that habits in Colombia. They have a population of 27,000 habitants and are descendents of the ancient Tairona culture.

Territory:

Central Zone: Nabusímake, capital of the arhuacos; Yechikin y Busin.

Western Zone: Serankua, Windiwameina, Singunei.

South Zone: Zigta, Yeurwa, Gumuke, Yeiwin, Seiarukwingumu, Buyuaguenka, y Simonorwa.

South East Zone: Wirwa, Yugaka, Karwa.

East Zone: Sogrome, Donachwi, Timaka, Aruamake, Seinimin e Izrwa.

THOUGHT:

They belive in a creator and in a big father, Kakü Serankua of whom the firsts gods and materials objects came from.

ECONOMY:

Arhuaco´s live from agriculture and handicrafts. Originally each family owned a cold earth parcel , another amid hot weather and other land , but past are no longer available because the invasion caused the territorial reduction . In the highlands grow potatoes , onions , garlic , bean, cabbage , lettuce , mulberry , tree tomato , pumpkin , wheat and sisal . In the middle lands corn, beans, cassava , parsnips , malanga , coca, cotton , pineapple , papaya , guava , passion fruit , passion fruit, orange and lemon. Furthermore they raise chickens , cattle , sheep and goats on a small scale .
